KATHERINE LESLIE HENDRICKS Born: November 14, 1947. Kamehameha School, 1965 grad University of Hawaii, Bachelors in Zoology, grad 1969 Masters in Public Health completed while working full time at the State of Hawaii, Department of Health, Her Masters in Public Health was centered around the Wilson Tunnel. She studied air quality in relation to the trade winds, Kona (south) winds and variable to no winds in the tunnel, collecting data on particulate matter and carbon monoxide Mother's full name: Ella Mee How Akuna Goo Father's full name: Richard Sawyer Sr. Presbyterian, Kawaihao Church Married: St. Patrick's Church, Honolulu, May 2, 1970, married to Todd Hendricks for 55 years Kathy in the early 1970s did research on developing a: 1. Vaccine for Ciguatera fish poisoning at the UH Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology and 2. Vaccine for Dengue Fever at Leahi Hospital Kathy then spent about 30 years at the State of Hawaii, Department of Health in water, air, solid waste, and hazardous waste, monitoring and enforcement. Eventually she became the Supervisor of the Clean Air Branch, monitoring and enforcement of Clean Air for all of the Hawaiian Islands. She also took care of the outer island health department workers, making sure that they were able to go to conferences in Hawaii and on the Mainland, to learn new laws and regulations, especially those of the Federal Environmental Protection Agency. Surviving relatives: Todd Hendricks spouse, seven grandchildren- Lea, Solymar, Grace, Sarah, Korah, Haruna, and Maximiliane, brother Richard Sawyer, sister Barbara Sawyer and the rest of the Sawyer Ohana. Services: Friday, August 15, Ka Waiwai ma Ko'olau (Ko'olau Ballroom and Conference Center), 45-550 Kionaole Road, Kaneohe, free parking in Ko'olau Ballrooms parking lot, Visitation 11:00 am, Services at 12:00 noon, followed by lunch.
