Kay Takaezu Obituary

KAY KIYOKO TAKAEZU 100, of Honolulu, passed away peacefully at home on August 27, 2025. Kay was born in 1924 in Haiku, Maui to Taru and Ushi Yonamine, who immigrated from Okinawa. As one of seven children, she had many cherished memories of her early years. The family later moved to Honolulu where she graduated high school from Hawaiian Mission Academy. A proud and spirited career woman, Kay attended Honolulu Business College before joining Optical Dispensers of Hawaii, as bookkeeper and office manager. She served as trusted advisor to the owners and dedicated 45 years to the company. In 1948, Kay married William Seichi Takaezu and settled in Puunui where they raised three children. Together, they traveled the world, often with friends, until Las Vegas became their favorite destination. They loved gathering family and friends, filling the home with laughter and joyous celebrations. Kay lived life with purpose and passion. She was fiercely competitive, vivacious, and known for her enthusiasm in all that she did - from her love of dancing (ballroom, line, hula, Okinawan and tap) to her weekly poker nights, and bowling outings. She will be remembered for her infectious positivity, boundless energy, and deep belief in the goodness of others. Her integrity, encouragement, grace, and wisdom inspired those around her. Above all, Kay's legacy is one of unconditional love, humility, and kindness. She is survived by children Gail (Chris) Thometz, Jill Takaezu, Timmy Takaezu (Jodi Lam), grandchild Rebecca (Matt) Boyd, sister Edna Zukeran, in-laws, Estelle Yagi, Betty Miyachi, and Michael (Sandy) Takaezu, and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Saturday, October 18 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary, 30 N. Kukui Street. Visitation starts at 12:00 pm; service begins at 1:00 pm. Aloha or casual attire. The family requests no flowers and no koden. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
