Aloha to all Family and Friends. I remember Kelly Loo's sunny smile as he worked in the Lo'I in Waipio Valley. Our Hawaiian Studies Class often went to Waipio Valley and I would go to Waipio Valley when I could, with my Taubies...volunteering to help pull weeds out of the Lo'i. Only thing was, it seemed Kelly Loo looked a little different every time I saw him. I would ask, "Have you seen Kelly Loo?" And he would say, "Well, I'm Kelly Loo!!!" Once, up by the Waipio lookout, Kelly Loo and his family had gathered there. Kelly Loo says to everyone, especially the keiki, "You see that big tree there? And the next tree growing in? That tree is important to the Waipio Valley. It is a very strong tree. We would hoist our loads of Kalo on that tree. Just put a rope around that tree and pull up the load. We'll, we don't really do that too much now, but that Tree will always be important to the Waipio Valley Ohana." I was hoping we could safeguard that Tree. Maybe make an "Exceptional Historic Tree" designation, maybe with a small sign with history of Kalo and the Tree? Well, I love
