Very saddened to hear about Kirk's passing. I enjoyed working with him at Queen's and depended on him for his diagnoses. A nice story - one Sunday afternoon out of the blue I get a call, and it's Kirk. He had found my military ID on the street in Kaka'ako just by chance. It had fallen out of my wallet when I was at an establishment, and he took the time to find my phone number and call me directly - I was still in the area and picked it up from him and thanked him profusely, since replacing it is a huge hassle. He was that kind of person.

Jayna and Madi,
We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Kirk was such a great person. Obviously smart, hard working, generous, and kind. During the soccer games, he would yell really loudly, "Go Mads!!!" Frank fondly remembers running the marathon with Kirk, although I´m sure Kirk was in better shape! He´s gone way too soon and he will be missed.
In deepest sympathy?

To the Hirata family, I am so sorry for your loss. At DLS, we looked forward to his clinical conferences, which of course included photos of family outings and we watched Madi grow with each one! He will truly be missed. My prayers are with you.

Jayna, Madi and family. I am so sorry for your loss. Kirk was a brilliant person and so helpful, and had a great sense of humor too. I remember his first day of residency with my department (Microbiology) and he came up to me and offered to contact the physicians (that normally the techs would need to contact) when there was an issue or problem. We were so surprised that he volunteered to do that - he took a huge burden off our shoulders! He was always pleasant and professional with my staff - and when we weren't at work/talking about work, he had great stories to tell too! He will be missed.
