Laura Iwaki Obituary

LAURA SAKAE IWAKI Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on December 17, 1938, Laura was a proud graduate of Kaimuki High School, Class of 1956. Known for her fun spirit, generosity, and passion for cooking and entertaining, Laura opened her home to many. It was a place filled with love and laughter. She will be deeply missed for her warmth and kindness. Laura's beauty shone not only on the outside but from within her heart. She maintained a deep faith in Christ throughout her life, and longed to be in His loving presence. Laura leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and cherished memories that will live in the hearts of those who knew her. She was an inspiration and our hero. Survived by her husband James M. Iwaki, daughters Vicky (Garrick) Yama, Tammie (Scott) Ajimura: grandchildren Blayne (Kanoe) Yama, Kristin Yama, Landon (Victor) Ajimura, Lauren (Tommy) Wentzel, Austin Ajimura; great-grandchildren Blakey Yama, Noah Wentzel, Delilah Wentzel, brothers Roy M. (Gail) Nakamura, Bert Nakamura, sisters-in-law Elaine Nakamura, Donna Nakamura, and nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Kamekichi and Yone Nakamura; siblings Hazel Uehara, Teruko Takazono, Tamotsu Nakamura, David Nakamura, Nancy Nagatoshi, Warren Nakamura, James Nakamura. We would like to express our warmest gratitude to everyone who cared for our mom: Dr. Joji Kohjima and staff, Oncologist Dr. Paula Lee and staff, Radiation Oncologist Dr. Michael Roach and staff, Pali Momi Infusion Center staff, and Islands Hospice staff. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2024. Visitation from 3:00-5:00pm, service at 5:00pm, located at Nuuanu Memorial Park and Mortuary.
