LILI TOKUDA Obituary

In Loving Memory LILI YURIKO TOKUDA February 14, 1923 ~ August 5, 2023 "I just heard that one of my best friends and the most wonderful woman to ever walk this earthpassed away. Lili Yuriko Tokuda, at 100 years-young, Lili brightened the lives of everyone she met. A suervivir of a Japanese relocation camp in Wyoming, Lili would talk of her experience saying "the sky was so blue above the barbed wire" and "that's where I met my husband". She lived her life on the Sunny Side of the street! I love her so very much and will try to follow her example of kindness. I'm sure heaven shines brighter with Lili being there." - Faith Stone Lili (Yuri) was born in Seattle, Washington in 1923 on Valentine's Day. The daughter of Hazue (picture bride) and Eitaro Sekiguchi of Japan who immigrated to the U.S. around the tum of the century. Lili was the youngest of four children. Her siblings were; George, Emiko, and Nappy. With her father sick, he and Lili were sent to Japan where she lived and was educated until she graduated from high school. She attended Ferris School in Yokohama, Japan. In 1940 Lili rejoined her family in Hollywood, where her mother owned and operated a grocery store. Lili briefly attended Los Angeles College, when the Second World War broke out. Her family was incarcerated (ExecOrder: 9066) at Heart Mountain prison camp in Wyoming in 1942 where she met her future husband, Tadd Tokuda. They had 3 sons and made their home in West Los Angeles, CA. Lili was an accountant at UCLA where she worked for nearly 20 years. After her husband died in 2003, she moved to Hawaii and lived with her son Terry, his wife, Gudrun and their son, Sage. She was a loving g/gg/mother, avid cook, voracious reader, gifted writer (blog: beinglili.com) art patron (Donkey Mill). Lili easily shared w/others, her aloha, humor, grace, style, food, friendship and loving ways and she will be missed by all who knew her. A celebration of Life memorial will be held on Saturday, September 16th, 2023, (10am) at Kona Baptist Church (78-7156 Puuloa Rd. KK. 96740; 808 322-3355). Another service will be held at the Donkey Mill Art Center in Holualoa (TBA). Lili is survived by her three sons; Tlaloc (Hawaii), Randy (Reno, Nv w/wife, Susie) and Terry (Hawaii w/wife, Gudrun); Grandchildren; Shannon (Nv), Jay (Nv), Awan (Aus), and Sage (Hawaii); Nieces/Nephews; Naomi, Reiko, Robin, Keith K, Mark K., Carolyn, Marian K, Jody, Jill, Julie, Mark H..and a large Ohana of relatives. *Proverbs 3:18 "She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is everyone that retaineth her."
