LLOYD TAKEO NEKOBA It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lloyd Nekoba, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who died peacefully on November 10, 2024, at the age of 82. Lloyd's life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and the power of human connection. Born on September 19, 1942, in Hilo, Hawaii, Lloyd was raised by his grandmother in the plantation town of Pepeekeo. He graduated from Hilo High School and joined the Army. He attended SF State U, majoring in secondary education. Upon his return to Hawaii in 1971, he taught at Hilo Intermediate school and Konawaena High School on the Big Island. He also started the alternative education program Hale O Ponopono, and the first soccer program in Hawaii at Konawaena High School. It was in Kona that he also became involved in politics, supporting Jean King as Lieutenant Governor for the State of Hawaii. Lloyd's career spanned many decades in the Department of Education, State and Federal positions in Hawaii, and his leadership was marked by humility, compassion, and an unwavering belief in the power of education to uplift individuals and communities. Lloyd was a devoted family man. He was preceded in passing by his foster sons, Allen Gaspar and Joeseph Delaries, and is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Pat, his children, Devon, daughter in law Heather, and their children Kaelyn and Dylan and daughter Dalene and her children Leihala and Kaimana. He is also survived by two brothers, Glen and Gary Nekoba. A celebration of life will be held on December 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. (visitation at 10 a.m.) at the Hosoi Garden Mortuary, with a reception to follow. Interment will be at Hawaii State Veteran's Cemetery on December 19, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
