I met Lani in 1974 when I was in the Navy working at the Makalapa clinic. I remember she would make up a "bed" in the bottom drawer of her desk for my infant daughter whenever I brought my baby in.
I lost touch with Lani through the years, but would see her sometimes when I was out shopping. She would always ask about my daughter and always talk about that "bed" she made for her when she was an infant.
Lani always said she would teach me hula, but we never got the chance to start those lessons.
I'll always remember Lani as a caring and generous woman with a wonderful sense of humor.
