Madeline Wong Obituary

MADELINE CHOY WONG Born in Honolulu to Bung Chun and Mary Young Choy. She passed away on December 22, 2023 at the age of 102. Predeceased by beloved husband Thomas Y. Y. Wong, who retired as foreman at Pearl Harbor Shipyard. She was the eldest of three children, Herman and Thelma predeceased. Survived by sons Dr. Stanley and Dr. Theodore, 7 grandchildren Clifford (Amber Townsend), Stephanie (Ian Glidden), Lori-Ann (Dan Ambrosewicz), Bryan (Cindy Lee), Gregg (Jodi Nagata), Billy (Karen Chongue), Christine (Michael Leung) and 11 great-grandchildren. She retired as principal of John H. Wilson Elementary School in Waialae-Kahala after 13 years following 7 years of classroom teaching. Also, she later had several assignments as acting principal at Kalihi-Kai, vice-principal at Pearl Harbor Kai Elementary, and briefly acting principal at Noelani Elementary. She was a proud graduate of Punahou, 1938, completed certificate of Education at University of Hawaii in 1951 and learned about Chinese cultures and traditions at Mun Lun Chinese School, 1939. After 25 years with the Department of Education, she enjoyed 20+ years of Tai-chi, Chinese brush painting, and guitar playing. Genealogy was of great interest, which she researched her Chinese/Hawaiian/Haole heritage. Madeline also had a great passion for recipes; cookbooks and clippings filled her shelves. She brought the family together by preparing dinner for festivals and celebrations to be passed on to the next generation. She will be fondly remembered for her commitment to family and friends, blessings to all - we are forever grateful! Celebration of life and burial were held on December 27, 2023.
