MANUEL MANNY REGINALD SYLVESTER Manuel "Manny" Reginald Sylvester, born June 20, 1930, peacefully passed away at his home in Kahala Nui on May 22, 2024. Manny was a loving husband of 67 years to his late wife, Margaret "Marge" Sylvester, and a devoted father to Manuel "Randy" Reginald Sylvester, Jr. (Linda), Thomas Ryder Sylvester, Dr. Mary "Sue" Suzanne Palumbo (Nick), Timothy Francis Silvestre (DeAnn), and Julia Michele Moody. Throughout his life, Manny cherished spending time with his family, including his grandchildren: Manuel "Reg" Sylvester, III (Gwen), William "Billy" Palumbo (Lori), Sarah "Rose" Sylvester (David), Timmy Palumbo, Hannah Doyle (Dan), Ryder Moody (Ilica), Michael Sylvester, Catalina-Claire "CC" Silvestre, and Alden Silvestre, as well as his great-grandchildren, Aurora Sylvester, Sawyer Doyle, and Logan Doyle, and dozens of nieces and nephews. Manny, born in Kalihi to Ludvina and Manuel Sylvester, was a proud alum of St. Louis High School, where he was a lifelong donor, and the University of Hawaii, where he maintained an ongoing commitment to the University and the UH Foundation. He grew up as one of thirteen siblings: James Sylvester, Angela McKee, Charles Sylvester, Louise Burnes, Stephen Sylvester, Clotilde Norman, Veronica Alameda, Phillip Sylvester, Bernadette Griffin, Anthony Sylvester, Paulette Sylvester, and Gloria Murray. Manny, a Korean War veteran, left the Army as a First Lieutenant after the war to be with his young family. His storied, 40-year career as a CPA was marked with significant accomplishments, including rising to Managing Partner at Coopers and Lybrand, which is now part of PWC. His commitment to mentoring young accountants and his philanthropic endeavors, including funding the Institute for Human Services, left a lasting impact on many. He found joy in traveling with Marge, particularly their 32 annual European trips with friends and family to vineyards, on cruises, and with Elderhostel. He also co-founded Incline Village, Nevada in the early 1960's, where he resided part-time until he returned to the Islands full-time in 2012. Manny's legacy of generosity and dedication to his community and family will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. Please celebrate Manny at his funeral on Saturday, June 22 at Mary, Star of the Sea Church. Visitation: 9:30, funeral mass: 11:00. Reception immediately following ceremony at O'ahu Country Club.
