Marguerite Akana Obituary

Marguerite Pearl Kawehiokalani Akana Born April 26,1938 in Honolulu, Hawai'i to Marguerite Pearl Olsen (Mother) and Nicholas Peter Akana (Father). She was raised by her Tutu Edith Kawehiokalani Olsen of Papakolea. Surrounded by her family, Marge passed away on December 11, 2023 at the age of 85. She is survived by her brother Nick Akana (Dawn) of Mililani, sister Roselani Netane of Florida, her loving pet shitsu Makamae and the Akana Ohana. She is preceded in death by her brother John Akana & hanai sister Priscilla Bettencourt. Marge was very talented. She was a composer of music, poetry, entertainer and recording artist. She along with Pauline Kumala'a were The Kuhina Serenaders, who played at various hotels in Waikiki, including the Kumu Lounge at The Pacific Beach Hotel for ten years and composed 3 albums including award winning song, "He Mele No Ku'ulei". She had a way with moods and melodies in both English and Hawaiian. She worked for 16 years as Head of Security at St. Francis Hospital where she made lifelong friendships. Marge had a gift of caring for God's creations. She had an innate love for animals, plants and her family. Most of her time was spent caring for and rescuing animals. She found joy in nurturing and growing beautiful plants. Her greatest happiness was caring for close friends and family. She will be remembered for bringing love and laughter into our family. She will be missed dearly by everyone who knew her. A Hui Hou our dearest Aunty. Forever in our hearts. Until we meet again!
