Mrs. Arakaki, I am so sorry I missed you! I had been trying for years to return to the Hawaiian islands to visit and show my children the beauty of the Hawaiian islands and also visit you. I am so happy to see she lived to be 100 years old--I still remember her stories of how she grew up, met her husband and arrived in Honolulu. Mrs. Arakaki will forever hold a special place in my heart...we actually rented her unit behind her house. She taught me so much about cooking malasadas, life, clothes hanging, Italy, and her love of Asian food and culture. I will forever cherish driving her to the fresh vegetable market in her little red car.
