Martin Wyss Obituary

MARTIN WYSS Chef Martin Wyss, 86, passed away peacefully at home on February 2, 2026. He was born on November 9, 1939 in Wadenswil, Switzerland and began his adventures at 18 when he began working on a cruise ship traveling the world. He then worked for Hilton Hotels and after working in Montreal, he was recruited to be a part of the opening team for the Kahala Hilton in Honolulu, Hawaii where he spent 18 years and met his future mother-in-law who introduced him to his future wife, Jean Wyss. Together they had 2 daughters and made a home on the hill overlooking the Kahala Hilton. In 1982 Martin, Jean, and her sister Sharon Fujii, opened the Swiss Inn Restaurant in Niu Valley where many memories were made. Martin loved his home, his yard, a variety of pets, traveling (especially on the open ocean) and was a dedicated father, husband and friend. He will be deeply missed and forever a part of our memories. He is survived by his wife Jean (Fujii), daughters Suzie and Jennie (Tammy Hay Wyss), and grand-daughter Aeryn. We will honor him on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at the Kapi'olani Community College 'Ohi'a Cafeteria at Noon and gather with friends, family, food and our stories. In lieu of flowers or monetary gifts, family and friends may contribute to the Culinary Arts Program at Kapi'olani Community College, a program he supported and loved.
