Mary Franklin Bailey

January 22, 1946 - March 11, 2025

Mary Franklin Bailey, 79 of Montvale passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born January 22, 1946, in Maryland, a daughter of the late Charles DeWitt Franklin and Myrtle Louise Smith Franklin. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Phillip and Michael Franklin.

Mary was in the first graduating class of Liberty High School in 1965. She obtained a degree from Lynchburg General Hospital School of Nursing to start her 43 years of compassionate service as an RN. Mary touched the lives of family, friends and anyone in need with her warmth, generosity and faith. She was always ready to cook, sew, babysit or bake one of her delicious cakes.

She is survived by her son, C. David Bailey; daughter, Jennifer Hartman (Mark); beloved sister, Joyce Dooley; grandchildren, Amber Hill-Matchett, Meagan Bailey Creasy, C. J. Bailey, Rosemary Hartman; her aunt, Barbara Peery Angles; a special cousin, Roger Franklin as well as special friends, Lou Padgett and Kathy Gross; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Walnut Grove Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 299, Montvale, VA 24122.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Bob Auxier officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
