Mary Chang Obituary

MARY ELLA CHANG 89, of Honolulu, Hawaii, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on April 07, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Katie Chew, siblings Robert Chew, Alice Gee and Sarah Dailley, and husband Roy W. K. Chang. She is survived by son Jon (Jennifer) Chang, and grandchildren Jason Chang, Jessica Chang and Jonathan Chang. Mary was born in Oakland, California in 1935, and attended Oakland High School, graduating in 1953. She earned a degree in nursing from Samuel Merritt Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. In 1959, Mary and Roy became husband and wife, and remained so until his untimely death in 1977. Mary enjoyed a long and successful career with the federal government as a registered nurse at Tripler Army Medical Center from 1960-1993. After retiring from federal service, Mary led an active life, volunteering at Action Line, socializing with friends, and making frequent trips to California. She loved knitting, jewelry making and cooking. She was extraordinarily generous and caring, willing to do anything to help her friends and family.
