MARY NAKASHIMA Obituary

MARY TAKAYO (TAGAWA) NAKASHIMA Mary Takayo (Tagawa) Nakashima (97) passed away on April 24, 2025. She led a life of adventure, laughter, love, friends and family. She had a great sense of humor, happy disposition, and a smile that was unforgettable. She was born in Honolulu on March 11,1928 to Takuichi and Hanayo (Nishino) Tagawa. She was the third of five children and grew up in Kakaako. She graduated from McKinley HS and Honolulu School of Design. She married Emery Shunro Nakashima (deceased 2016). They lived in Honolulu, Pearl City and Mililani. Mary's lifetime career was at Sears Roebuck and Company working at the store, service center, and warehouse. Mary was an avid crafter and was especially skilled in making feather lei. She was also a good cook and baker. Mary and Emery traveled all around the world. Mary's favorite places were Japan and the pyramids of Egypt. Mary is survived by her 3 daughters: Leatrice (Glenn Inouye, deceased) Nakashima, Jocelyn (Stanley Ching) Nakashima, and Linda (Gary Sakumoto) Nakashima; 5 grandchildren: Ross (Tammie) Egloria, Reid Egloria, Meriann (Matt) Chun, Bradley (Nga) Ching, Leslie (Tommy) Chau; and 9 great-grandchildren: Edward & Parker, Owen & Leia, Oliver, Emmett, & Sophia, Dylan & Lucas. A private service was held. She is buried at Mililani Memorial Park.
