MASAICHI OSHIRO Obituary

MASAICHI OSHIRO 97, of Honolulu, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2023. He was born on August 10, 1926. After graduating from Farrington High School, he worked for Coca Cola Co and United Airlines. At 19, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in January 1947. He began his training in Kenpo Karate at the Nuuanu Y.M.C.A., and in 1956, he owned his dojo called Te-Ken Jutsu Kai. He left Hawaii for Japan in 1959 where he studied Goju-Ryu Karate and continued on to Okinawa. He married his wife, Hatsuko, in Naha in May 1960. He was a Sensei in Goju-Ryu Karate in Hawaii and says, it builds character and citizenship. He retired from the Department of Forestry. His interests were in oil painting of Hawaiian landscapes and florals, collecting old Hawaiian bottles of T.H., and volunteering at St. Francis and Kuakini Hospitals for over 30 years. He loved family outings to the beach, fishing, hiking all over Oahu, picnicking. Seeing his grandchildren grow up into responsible and happy individuals enlightened his life. His family is wife Hatsuko, son Clarence (Kazuko), daughter Jean Asato (Dayton); son James (preceded in death); grandchildren Angela, Andrew, Kailuana. His private celebration of life was held at Borthwick Mortuary. Mahalo to everyone who had shared their lives with Masaichi.
