Matthew Kamaunu Obituary

Matthew Kuluwaimaka Kamaunu Sr., 85 recently, of Ma'ili, O'ahu, passed away suddenly on January 24, 2023. Born July 02, 1937. The first-born child of nine to Benjamin Jr. and Myra L. Kamaunu in Ho'olehua, Moloka'i. Mr Kamaunu is predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Pearl (Kamaka) Their oldest son Matthew (Virginia) Kamaunu Jr., and grand- daughter Chandellyn-Pikake Franks. He is survived by daughters: Marciann (Keith Sr) Colvin, Mariann Kamaunu, Merleann (Kenneth) Kamaunu-Tester, Teriann (Robert) Mitchell. Sons: Walter, Benjamin, Eric (Janelle), Matthew (Casey) III and Kenneth (Robin) Tester-Kamaunu, 2 hanai daughters Stephanie Cramer-Legsay and Hope (Kerstan) Cabral, 3 hanai sons: Roland (Jen) Valez, Kalani Uweko'okalani and Keolamai Hernan 40 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, 33 great- great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 24, 2023 at Ma'ili beach Park from10am to 6pm (turn into park at Kaukamana Rd., follow road to last 2 beach access). I had the honor of working with Matt on the SS Constitution in 1991. I was hired as the Sanitation Officer, and worked with him for 4 months. He was an honest and honorable man; and I will never forget our time onboard together. Rest in Peace, Mr K!
