May Kitaoka Obituary

MAY MITSUKO KITAOKA (1932 - 2024) May Kitaoka, 91, of Pearl City, HI, passed away on September 1st, 2024 after a nine-year battle with dementia. She was a devoted and loving wife, a huge pushover to her four adult children, an affectionate Grandma "K" to her grandchildren, and a cherished "Nana" to her great-grandchildren. Mitsuko Kojima was born to Yoshie and Toshiko Kojima on September 15, 1932. She was only 13 years old when she survived the atom bombing and subsequent horrors of its aftermath in her hometown of Hiroshima. In 1950, she met and married Tadashi; they were together until his passing in 2005. May retired as a tour coordinator and found pleasure in oil painting and daily visits to the "spa." She joined Tad in his passion for ocean cruising, UH Warrior away games, and quarterly "pilgrimages" to the 9th island, where there was not an All-You-Can-Eat buffet that May could pass up. Preceded by Tadashi and son Henry (Lesley) Kitaoka, May is survived by sons James Kitaoka, Donald Kitaoka, and daughter Joyce (Terry) Blake, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.
