Mearl Cooper Obituary

MEARL LAVERNE COOPER Mearl LaVerne "Vernie" Cooper, 79, most recently of Waikoloa, Hawaii and then Arlington, Washington, passed away on September 16, 2023. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Roger James Jr. and Gladys Chang of Honolulu, Hawaii. She graduated from the Kamehameha School for Girls in 1962. Mearl enjoyed being outside, loved music, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Mearl was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Joseph Lopes, her brother, Roger James, and her sister, Jennifer Hamer. She is survived by her son, John McKeon (Heidi); daughter, E. Lehua Terry (Ed); grand- children: J. Vance McKeon, Drew Terry, Chase Terry, and Kelly Terry; her sisters: Darlene Stansell (Charles), Janice Akua (Dan), Masie Tetreault (Joe), and Naomi Damon; her faithful dog, Hoku; along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Mearl's Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Silverdale Beach Hotel in Washington. Further details can be provided by family members upon request. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hawai'i Community Foundation (https://www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org/give) would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements Provided By: Weller Funeral Home

One of my fondest memories of Mearl was how caring and joyous she was. She cared for family like no other and went out of her way to make you feel part of that. She took great care of my dad Parker when they were married and brought our family into hers. The world has lost a wonderful woman.
