Mel has gone to dance amongst the clouds.

We will miss him but remember a true gentleman. Always professional, always polite, always a smile. A man who defined the aloha spirit.

Hi BJ, Family, and loved ones. I am so sad to hear of Mel's passing and am sending my condolences to all of you.
In times like these remember the smiles and all that you shared. Mel and I shared a few of the same things such as I lived in the next area to Laupahoehoe growing up as a child and also worked at Hawaiian Electric while learning how to fly before getting hired by Hawaiian Air. Great times with Mel having a few lunches together after we retired. I'll miss him a lot.

We were so sorry to hear of the passing of Mel. He was a good pilot that was well-liked by all. Know that he will be deeply missed. Our condolences to the Lindsey Ohana.

I flew with Mel when I was a pilot at Hawaiian Airlines. I was a first officer
on the DC-9's from the mid-80's to the early 90's. He was a great guy,
friendly and always had a smile. I am sorry for your loss.
