Michael Wood Obituary

MICHAEL B. WOOD Michael B. Wood, age 85, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and long term caregivers. Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Iris Edgemond Wood, his father, John Frederick Wood, and his brother, Robin E. Wood. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joanne Yaeger Wood, his older brother, Gary Frederick Wood, and three sons; Matthew (Cyndi), John (Julia Smith), Gregory (Jennifer), 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and "Uncle" Alex Pedi. Born in Oakland California and raised in the East Bay, Mike was a graduate from Acalanes High School and the University of California, Berkeley - where he received a full track scholarship and a degree in Business. Mike was co-founder of MWGroup, Hawaii Self Storage and The Plaza Assisted Living Communities. Mike was a past Board Member of Mid-Pacific School, Family Programs Hawaii, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hawaii, as well as contributing to several philanthropic efforts supporting youth mentorship. The Michael B. Wood Foundation dedicated funds to build and continues to fund the operations of Ho'omalu o Na Kamali'i, a safe house for abused and neglected children in West Oahu. Also committed to supporting student athletes, the MBWFoundation currently sponsors scholarships at Mid-Pacific School, as well as track and field scholarships at University of California, Berkeley. Donations in his memory may be made to Big Brothers/Big Sisters Hawaii, Family Programs Hawaii, or Mid-Pacific School Foundation (track construction).
