Mitchell Kong Obituary

MITCHELL JUNIOR KONG Mitchell Junior Kong (Mike), 98, loving son, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and friend passed away on January 3, 2025. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on February 12, 1926, son of Helen Jay Kong and Kam Hoy Kong. He retired from Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard as an electrician Foreman and later retired in 1988 from the State Department of Transportation as a Highway Lighting employee in the Oahu district. He proudly served in the U.S. Airforce and was part of the boxing team. Mike did not finish high school due to the early death of his father. He always stressed the importance of education and earned his High School Diploma by going to night school. He was predeceased by his wife, Ellen Kong and by his daughter Shirley Nishihira (Lyle). Mike is survived by children, Geri Tramontano (Franco), Randal Kong (Tracy), and Vernon Kong. Grandchildren, Nicole Capinpin (Alan), Rocco Tramontano (Alexandra), Micah, Tasha, Tehani and Tiana Kong and great-grand- children, Jaxon and Giada Capinpin and Kainalu Tramontano. Mike will finally be united in Eternal Love with his wife Ellen who he missed and cherished. He was a great man who always put everyone else first. We as children learned a lot from him, and he will be sorely missed. Service will be private to family. Arrangements Provided By: Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary LLC
