MOGUL KALEIOKALANAKILA FRANCIS KALAWAIA CRABBE In the month of Mahoe Mua, this past August, on the evening moon of Kaloakulua, the 11th day, high in the upland forest and mist of Maunalani, he kama o ka 'aina native son and patriot of the birth sands of his forefathers, Mogul Kaleiokalanakila Francis Kalawaia Crabbe took his last breath of life. Born on September 23, 1930, in the ahupua'a of Kahauiki, Kalihi, he was the fifth child and son of Clarence Edward Kalawaia Crabbe of Kaka'ako, Honolulu and Ilan Ailani Akamu Kainaliu, Hawai'i. With his passing, Mogul reunites with his beloved wife Rose Na'auao "Maka" Pelayo; his parents, and siblings: Clarence Kaneali'i (Katie), William Dodge (Ida), Vollmar Keonaona Joseph (Bonnie), Sturmar Puahaulani Felix (Henrietta) Crabbe. Mogul is survived by his older brother Eric James Douglas (Janet) and younger sister Malvaina Leimomi Magdalin Crabbe; sons: Michael Kaleiokalanakila Alexander (KS '75), Moses Kaho'okele Raphael (KS '77), Mark Napu'unoa (KS '80), Kamana'opono Matthew (KS '82), and Maurice Maka'ala (KS '83, Satomi); daughters Catherine Elizabeth Puamana (KS '74) and Monica Leihuanani Crabbe (KS '78); grandchildren: Brianne Rose Pulamakailialoha Cook (Jonathan), Jazminn Lee, Kauluponookaleilehua Marren Lu'uwai (Spencer), Mogul Kamana'opono Lu'uwai, Kawaikaunu Lu'uwai, Mahie Kaleimailani Aya Crabbe, Maurice Kahuaokana'auao Kengo Crabbe, Kalamakahi Aiko "Kachan" Crabbe, Kalamakuokana'auao Emalia Kalawaia Crabbe, and great grandson Ayden A'ukoaokamoanapilimeKanekauilanuimakehaokalani Cook. Mogul was a proud graduate and alumni of the Kamehameha Schools Class of 1948. He was an avid boxer growing up in Kalihi and post-high school he enlisted in the U.S. Airforce during the Korean War. Upon his return to Honolulu, he married Rose on September 24, 1955, at Sacred Heart's Church. Mogul is most known for his career as a retired Captain with the Honolulu Fire Department for 32 years. Prior to his official service with HFD, in 1963 he was one of twenty-five founding charter members of the International Association of Fire Fighters, Uniformed Firefighters Association, Local No. 1463 of Hawai'i, later known as the Hawai'i Fire Fighters Association. He also was a popular doorman for the Hilton Hawaiian Village in the 1990s. In 1998 he and Rose moved to Kona, Hawai'i La'iopua Hawaiian Homestead. He lived out his final years as he returned to his childhood neighborhood of Kalihi, at an elderly care home. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and medical staff from the Cadiz family care home, Kaiser Moanalua Hospital, St. Francis Healthcare, and Maunalani Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for caring for our father in his final days. A Celebration of life for Mogul will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023, at Borthwick Mortuary, 1330 Maunakea St., in the Maunakea/Vineyard Chapels. Visitation: 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.; Family Service: 7:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, September 12, Visitation: 9:00 a.m.; Services: 11:00 - 11:45 am. Burial: 1:00 p.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl. " Pau ka `oe hana, pio ka `oe ahi, pala ka `oe `ahui. Ho`i ko kino wailua i ka po o na kupuna."
