Nancy Ooka Obituary

NANCY REIKO OOKA Nancy "Auntie Reiko" Ooka, 93, passed away on January 19, 2023 at her home in Makawao, Maui. She was born on November 4, 1929 in Tokyo, Japan where she lived until her late 20's. She married Melvin Manabu Ooka in 1960, and helped him run Ooka Sporting Goods Store on Market Street in Wailuku. She was a kind, sweet, funny, generous, gracious lady. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Melvin. She was cremated and private family services were held. Auntie Reiko loved traveling all over the world, especially to her beloved Japan and London, England. She enjoyed sharing stories about her travels and got very excited about Princess Diana. For many years, Auntie Reiko had chronic kidney disease and several other medical problems that she did not want to treat. She wanted her quality of life to continue as normally as possible. She passed away peacefully at home under Hospice Maui care and 24 hour caretakers. She is survived by nieces and nephews Byron (Glennis) Ooka on Maui, Dr. Susan (Dr. Steven) Nishida on Oahu, Jeanne (Dr. Ray) Kuwahara, Wayne (Lea) Hiratsuka, Steven (Kazuko) Inouye, and Judy (Steven) Young of California.
