NANCY STOREY Obituary

NANCY JOAN STOREY Born September 18, 1938 in Dixon, IL, passed away in Las Vegas, NV on May 12, 2023 after an illness. Nancy spent her childhood on the family farm in Shabbona, IL and graduated from nearby Rockford Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Her early work experience included several years at the University of Michigan Hospital in the labor and delivery department. After experiencing one too many cold midwestern winters, Nancy embarked on a great adventure and moved to Hawaii. There she immersed herself in Hawaiian culture and learned the native Hawaiian language. This knowledge was very helpful during her long career as a labor and delivery nurse at Kapiolani Medical Center of Honolulu. Nancy's passion for Hawaii led to her being a 50 year resident of Honolulu. Though Nancy loved the tropical climate of Hawaii, she never lost touch with her Illinois roots where she maintained ownership in the family farms. She was an advocate for being a good steward of the land and kept up with the all the local news and trends in farming. Nancy always had a friendly smile, a great sense of humor and enjoyed a good conversation. This allowed her to stay in touch with family and friends far and wide. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Volney and Edessa Storey and a brother, Robert Storey. She is survived by a brother, Donald (Judi); nephew, Judd Storey (Catherine); nieces, Julia Storey and Mary Burris (James); great nephews, Ashton Storey and Aaron Burris; great niece, Rowan Burris; sister-in- law Susan Storey; good friends Rosemary, April and Bea and her beloved cat, Makanani.
