Nora Chong Obituary

NORA CHONG Nora Chong, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024, at the age of 93. Nora was born in 1930, in Honolulu. She graduated from University of Hawaii, Manoa with bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Teachers College, Columbia University. For 31 years, Nora shaped the young minds of children at Wai'anae Elementary School, Pearl Harbor Elementary School, Hickam Elementary, Ala Wai Elementary, Fort Shafter Elementary, and Ma'ema'e Elementary School. She also spent time mentoring and teaching young Student Teachers at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. She was an active member of United Church of Christ and ACUW. After retiring in 1985, Nora took care of her grandchildren and traveled around the world with her husband (Robert). She also continued to dedicate her time to ACUW where she served as President in 2004. Nora is survived by her sister, Mildred; her children, Nathan, Diane, and Roland (Diane); 8 grandchildren; and 3 great-grand- children. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert, parents, Chip Tong and Shiu Inn, and her sister, Janet, and brothers, Sun Yet and William. Beloved by many, Nora will be deeply missed by her sister, children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Services will be held at United Church of Christ, 467 N Judd St, Honolulu, HI 96817 on September 21, 2024. Visitation will be from 9 - 10 am. Services from 10 - 11 am. The burial will be at Diamond Head Memorial Park at 12:30 pm. Arrangements Provided By: Diamond Head Mortuary Chapel
