PAKINEE PORTMORE Obituary
PAKINEE CHARANYANOND PORTMORE Passed away on October 1, 2025 at the age of 86 of heart failure at Saint Louis Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, after an extended battle with various complications following surgery. Paki was a world traveler in her adult life, having lived in Laos, Crete and Germany, as well as six states in the USA. All were memorable places and times for her, but the most special and beloved was the 43 years spent living in Hawaii, from 1982 to 2024. She met her husband Ralph at a seminar in a Waikiki hotel in 1983, and they were married in 1985. While living in Hawaii Paki had a very successful career as a real estate agent and broker. She bonded in different ways with most of her clients, and several also became long-time friends. She tried to retire in the early 2000's, but never really did because, as one of her friends put it, "it was hard for her to leave because so many of her clients only wanted to work with her." Paki was born and raised in Thailand, living in several different places depending where her father's work took the family. He was a career official in the Thai government, including 12 years as Governor of Chachoengsao Province. Her mother was a co-founder and officer in what is now one of Thailand's major banks. Paki graduated from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. Her world travels started at Northern Illinois University, where she obtained her MBA. In late 2024 Paki and Ralph moved to the house they had built in the family compound in Bangkok. The idea was to spend their sunset years full time, rather than just annual visits, surrounded by her extended family. Little did they realize how special their life in Bangkok would become. Lots of peace and harmony, and just plain good times together with three generations of some 30 family members. That Paki was only able to spend less than a year with them close by was a real tragedy, one which will be strongly felt for a long time. Who was Paki? A long-time friend from Laos and Chiang Rai, Thailand probably summed her up best: "It's not a stretch to say that Paki was an emanation of Kwan Yin or Chao Mae Kwan Im, as the Thai pronounce the name of the Goddess of Compassion a unique Enlightened One who chooses to remain among humans to reveal the power of unconditional love." In addition to husband Ralph, who will live out the rest of his life with his Thai extended family, Paki is survived in Bangkok by her youngest brother, two sisters-in law, eight nephews and nieces and their families, and 11 grand nieces and nephews, and in the USA by stepson Douglas and family of South Bend, Indiana.
