PAUL ARAKAKI Obituary

PAUL KAZUO ARAKAKI 92, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on December 16, 2024. Paul was born in Ewa on the island of Oahu and was the second youngest of nine children. He attended Farrington High School after the family moved to Kalihi. Paul joined the U.S. Army after high school and was a solid 2nd baseman, playing baseball for the U.S. Army while on tour in Europe. After leaving the army, he worked as an electrician at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard for many years and retired as a Shop 51 general foreman at the "young" age of 55. Paul enjoyed Sudoku, playing Hanafuda with family, golfing, traveling, gardening, and volunteering at Kalihi Union Church with his wife April, to whom he was married for 54 years before she passed away. Paul will always be remembered for his loving, kind and humble spirit. Paul is survived by his son Glenn (Jodene), grandson, and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Paul's life will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Kalihi Union Church, 2214 N. King Street, Honolulu, Hawaii. Visitation at 10am, followed by the service at 11am. Lunch to follow in the church gym.

Arakaki (sorry but in the Yard we call many by their last name) was always an upbeat presence in the shop or on the boat. Needed help? He was there and always ready to provide the help you needed. Always a positive attitude and a friend. He was also a good buddy of my Dad (Fumio Kido - Gyro Shop foreman). I truly miss him. One of the real good guys.
