Penny was my boss while employed at the American Consulate in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. While sifting through some belongings I found a birthday card with some very kind words from her. It inspired me to look her up and sadly I found the sad news. She was a lovely person who was loved by all at the Consulate. RIP Penny

Penny and spoke by telephone from time to time after I moved from Honolulu to the San Francisco Bay Area. She loved reminiscing about travels, her children, and friends from all over the world. We met through my late husband John M Black. They studied many hours together for the State Department foreign service exam. She loved the movie Mama Mia and saw it several times. Each time she would call to say how much it lifted her spirits. She was, indeed, an extraordinary woman of the world. She is greatly missed and loved. RIP Blessings, Erica C. Jones
Violette & Trevor Brentnall

From work-related early '90's shared time in Guinea-Bissau, Trevor Brentnall & family came to know a very dear, sincere friend who with Dee, graciously welcomed Violette & I after many years with little contact to their home in Honolulu, keeping in touch ever since. Now we must wait our turn to be reunited in the world beyond where time & space don't separate souls. Meantime the beautifully written & photo illustrated book she completed of her life's adventures remains as a treasured legacy of her multiple talents & open-hearted character.

Penny was a dear friend in Honolulu. We shared the love of languages and travel. She and Richard were keenly interested in the John A. Burns School of Medicine, and the two of them become some of our very first tour docents. She was also instrumental in securing the Honolulu Boys' Choir, in which her grandson sang, for one of our annual medical school Dean's Circle holiday events. Her laugh was infectious and she almost always had a twinkle in her eye. She will be missed.
