Penny Garrity Obituary

PENNY LEE FOSTER GARRITY Penny Lee Foster (ex-Jesmer) Garrity passed away peacefully in Honolulu on September 7th. Penny was listening to her beloved Hawaiian music as she transitioned to reunite with her daughter, Whitney; her sister, Carol; and her mom and dad, Dorothy and Lyle Foster. She was a loyal Army wife who raised her kids in California, Kentucky, Germany, Maryland, Kauai, Georgia, Texas, Kansas, Oahu, and Virginia. When they left the nest, Penny completed her bachelor's degree in sociology, aligning academics with her interest in people. After her daughter's untimely death, she moved home to Honolulu to spend her remaining years close to her extended ohana--her Punahou '56 classmates. She also served as a docent at Washington Place and delivered meals with Meals-on-Wheels. She brought her family to visit every year ensuring they too understood the wonder of Hawaii. Penny is survived by her sons, David and Dwight Jesmer, daughter-in-law Noelle, son-in-law Steve Clark, grandsons Albert, Alex, and Charlie, and cousin, Pam Shore. A celebration of her life will take place in May. Arrangements Provided By: Borthwick

Yesterday

My husband and I were so blessed to know Penny and her family. They became very good friends in Schweinfurt, Germany over 60 years ago. She was so joyful and fun to be with, and we laughed every visit we had over the years. I hope my husband greeted her with open arms and they are sharing stories of each other´s families. My deepest sympathy to her children and grandchildren.

Penny and I met in Hawaii when our husbands were stationed there. We became close friends and shared our lives for many years. She was a joy to know and I will feel the the memories of the fun we had together.

Penny was my best friend and "big sister" when i arrived as a new lieutenant´s wife in Schweinfurt, Germany. She was such a beautiful, classy officer´s wife with a wicked sense of humor. I´ve never forgotten her even though i last saw her over 50 years ago. May her memories live on. Sheila
