Randy Wheeler Obituary

RANDY ALAN WHEELER The world has lost another talent to the cosmos. Randy Wheeler, aged 62, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2024, in Oahu, Hawaii. Randy was born in Layton, Utah. Six years later, he moved with his family to Plymouth, Massachusetts and then to Fair Oaks, California in 1970. It was there that Randy grew into a supremely talented professional musician, known for his mastery of the saxophone, but accomplished at almost any instrument he picked up. He graduated from Del Campo High School and immediately pursued a vibrant career in music. Randy toured extensively with R&B vocal group, the 20th Century Coasters in the early 80's, but he was most recognized as a member of the popular music group, Leo Swift. He toured globally before settling in Hawaii, first Kaua'i and then O'ahu, the island he called home for the next 30 years. During that time, he worked his "day-job" as the Operations Manager for Medmal Inc. while continuing to perform with artists all around the island, cementing a reputation as a saxophone virtuoso. Beyond performing, writing, and arranging, Randy was a knowledgeable connoisseur of good food, fine wine, and innovative jazz. His life was marked not only by his unlimited talent, passion, and work ethic, but also by his kindness, good-nature, and love of family. Randy is survived by his mother Virginia J. Vieira, brothers Eric Wheeler (Lisa Wheeler), Robert Wheeler (Debbie Wheeler), Russell Wheeler, and sister Ericka Goodner (Benjamin Goodner). He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald B. Wheeler. Randy's legacy is not just in the music he created but also in the countless lives he touched with his warmth and generosity of spirit - the embodiment of Aloha. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Special gratitude to Ken Cribbs, Leslie and Will Littlejohn, and everyone who gave their support, care, and incredible love to our beloved Randy.
