Richard Carpenter Obituary

RICHARD PALMETER CARPENTER Richard Carpenter "Dick" was born in Los Angeles in 1930. At five years old his family moved to Hawaii. During the war Dick and his brother, Tom were sent to Todd School For Boys in Illinois for three years. Upon his return he attended Punahou School where he played football, basketball, and tennis graduating in 1948. As a college freshman he attended University of Arizona on a football scholarship but returned to University of Hawaii where he played football for three years becoming co-captain his senior year. In 1952 Dick married his high school sweetheart, Suzanne Baldwin and they had three daughters. Dick worked for WIP eventually moving to Lihue and opening a branch there. In 1961 the family moved to Samoa where Dick and partners built and operated Coca Cola bottling plants in American and Western Samoa. Operations expanded to include ice, ice cream, and beer. In 1992 Dick retired and moved back to his family property in Lanikai where he enjoyed family, friends, golf, fishing, and travel. On May 13, 2023 Dick passed away at his home with his three daughters by his side. He is survived by, Christy Foytich, Nancy Arnott, and Gail Alger along with his brother Tom Carpenter.
