RICHARD "RICK" SAKURADA

RICHARD SAKURADA Obituary

RICHARD RICK SAKURADA It is with deep love and gratitude that we remember a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and community leader who dedicated his life to improving healthcare in Hawai'i. Richard "Rick" Hajime Sakurada, 79, of Kapolei, Hawai'i, passed away peacefully on October 10th, 2025, in Honolulu, Hawai'i. Rick was the son of Yukio and Mae Sakurada. He was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, where he would go on to marry Jane Ikeya on June 6, 1970. He would later earn a Pharmacy degree from the University of Nebraska in 1972, and move to Hawai'i. He is predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law Paul Ybarra. He is survived by his beloved wife Jane, sister Linda, and his family Darren, Mark, Chris, Danielle, Glynda, Niki, Andrue, Nate, and Gabe all of whom were blessed by his wisdom, generosity, and unwavering love. A visionary and co-founder of Pharmacare Hawai'i together with longtime business partner Byron Yoshino, Rick worked tirelessly to expand access to quality healthcare across the islands. His lifelong commitment to helping others has left an enduring impact on the community he so deeply cared for. Outside his professional life, he found great joy in gardening, cheering for University of Hawai'i football, and watching his grandsons play hockey and baseball, moments that brought him immense pride and happiness. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the University of Hawai'i Athletic Foundation or the charity of your choosing, in honor of his enduring support for UH athletics and the spirit of aloha that guided his life. Private family service will be held at a later date.

Earlier today

In loving memory of a wonderful person. It was such a blessing to be able to see Rick every month for his haircut. I always made sure to set a side extra time for him for longer conversations, which I always looked forward to. We will love you and miss you always.
