Richard Sato Obituary

RICHARD HARUMI SATO, DICK Richard Harumi Sato, 94, passed away on December 22, 2023, in Wahiawa, HI. Born on January 10, 1929, Richard led a life marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his community. Following his graduation from Leilehua High School in 1945, Richard served in the U.S. Army as part of the 11th Airborne Division from June 28, 1946, to 1949. Using the GI bill, he pursued his education, first attending Electro Technical School in Honolulu and then the Milwaukee School of Engineering before securing a position as a nuclear and later, communications engineer at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, where he worked till his retirement in 1985. Post-retirement, Richard founded RHS Travel in Wahiawa, Hawaii, sharing his passion for travel with others. An avid angler, enjoyed free diving and deep-sea fishing in Hawaii, along with fishing in Shelter Lodge, Alaska. His love for exploring the world never waned and he once mentioned that he and Jean went on 60 cruises. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Jean Sato; his children, Janet Nakamura, Kathy Myers, Stanley Sato, and Tressy Chan; 3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Toshi Frances Nohara, Keiko Sato, Kinya Sato, and Doris (Sato) Shigetomi. Richard's life was a testament to his resilience, ingenuity, and the deep bonds of family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
