RICHARD YORIOKA Obituary

RICHARD KENJI YORIOKA Richard was born on Vashon Island, WA., on December 29, 1940, and died on September 7, 2023, in Vancouver. He spent his early childhood in the Minidoka Internment Camp in Idaho. At the end of the war the Yorioka family settled in Spokane, WA. He earned his BA in Mechanical Engineering and a ROTC Commission from Gonzaga University. He was a Captain of an Artillery Battery in Vietnam. After Vietnam, he was a ROTC instructor at Gonzaga. When he was discharged from the Army, he moved the family to Honolulu, Hawaii. For 30 years, he worked for the Gas Company. He retired as the Division Manager of Neighbor Island Operations. He retired to his native Washington. He was a devoted Christian who volunteered for everything and loved to travel! Richard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sue; two daughters, Eve Butler and Candace Yorioka; grandson Ethan Yorioka and his sisters: Patricia Yorioka, Judy Wong, and Kathy Migaki. Richard will be interned at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl, on February 21, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers or Koden, the family requests that donations be made to Gonzaga University ROTC program. gonzaga.edu/givenow
