Mitzie Nost Obituary

Mitzie E. "Boo" Nost, age 92, of Delaware City, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, September 21, 2025.

Born in Eaton, IN, she was the daughter of the late Ethel Wescott Smith and Walker Stover Blair. Mitzie was given her lifelong nickname of "Boo" over 50 years ago by her grandson, Paul Johnson Sr., with whom she shared a special bond. She loved her family, friends, and everyone she came in contact with. Mitzie dedicated her entire life to caring for others; often prioritizing the needs of others before her own. She also loved animals and would, along with her late husband Jake, feed and care for stray animals around the neighborhood ensuring they were fed, housed, and had all their vaccines.

Mitzie retired from the State of Delaware after a 30-year career caring for elderly patients housed in the Tilton Building, at the Governor Bacon complex, in Delaware City. In her true loving spirit, she cared for her patients like they were family and thoroughly enjoyed her career. In fact, one of her final wishes was to spread part of her ashes at the former Tilton Building complex where she worked.

In her spare time, Mitzie enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, and spending time with family and friends. She had a large collection of cookbooks and always had a cake, pie, or pastry close by for anyone that stopped by to visit. It wasn't uncommon to find a kid from the neighborhood at her house enjoying a snack or just spending time with her. One of her favorite holidays was Halloween so she could see all the kids dressed up in their costumes where she would also hand out treats.

In addition to her parents, Mitzie was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Nost; son, Michael "Kim" King; sisters, Rosie Donovan, Anna Ruth Robinson Raper, and Dorothy Fox; brothers, Paul Blair, and Billie Robinson; and step sons, Jacob Nost, Ronnie Nost, Paul Nost, and Jeffrey Nost. She is survived by her children, Victor L. Smith Sr. (Donna), Vicki Johnson, Jeffrey King (Abby), Tom King (Hann), and David King (Jessica); step children, Cheryl Griffin, AJ "Biggie" Nost, Laurie Nost Jones (Ralph), and Joseph Nost; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Julia Guto from Delaware Caregivers, Jessica Hall, Brenda Parker, and Bayada Hospice for all the love, care, and support they provided over the past several months. It was extremely important to be able to care for her in the comfort of her own home and we are forever grateful.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 pm until 6:30 pm on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Dragon Run Park Building, 611 Madison Street, Delaware City, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 6:30 pm. A reception will immediately follow. Inurnment will be held privately.
