ROBIN HUDSON Obituary

ROBIN JOYCE BRUNER HUDSON Robin Joyce Bruner Hudson, Lee's Summit, MO Robin Joyce Bruner Hudson, 80, of John Knox Village in Lee's Summit, MO, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2024. Robin was born on August 16, 1944, in Newton, KS, to Robert and Theress Bruner. Robin will be interred at the family plot in Newton, KS. A memorial service for family and friends is scheduled for Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 11:00 am at the John Knox Village Chapel, Lee's Summit, MO. Robin graduated from Newton High School in 1962. She attended the University of Kansas for two years, where she was a sister of the Kappa Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She began family life in 1964 and became a mother in 1968. She enjoyed raising her children and being a homemaker for many years. She began working at Talbots clothing store as her children got older and spent countless hours volunteering, not only for her children's schools and activities, but also for larger community organizations. The family moved frequently due to work transfers, and Robin left each city she lived in a little better than she found it through her volunteerism. As a new resident in each city, she immediately got involved with women's volunteer organizations, such as PEO, Chapter JZ, of Lee's Summit, MO, Junior League of Chicago, IL, Junior League of Pittsburgh, PA, and the Dispensary Board of Saint Margaret Memorial Hospital of Pittsburgh, PA, of which she was the president for multiple years. Robin found herself in leadership role after leadership role. She had an amazing talent for organization and getting things accomplished, often working with large groups of volunteers and multiple committees on very tight time frames. She loved it and had a talent for bringing events together successfully and beautifully. As someone close to her put it, "She was special." One of her most treasured volunteer stations was the Moraine Park Museum in Estes Park, CO, within her beloved Rocky Mountain National Park. She was able to combine her love of volunteering with the inspiration and beauty of the mountains she loved so dearly. Robin was a creative and talented person who, in addition to volunteerism, enjoyed arts and crafts, sewing and needlework, creating menus, cooking, and setting beautiful tables for family and friends, and decorating her homes to always feel welcoming and warm. She also enjoyed traveling (especially a 50th birthday cooking trip to France), hiking and skiing the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, the sounds of nature (especially water), classical music (especially Vivaldi), spending time with family and friends, and always hearing about how her three grandsons were following their passions and creating their own paths. Robin was preceded in death by her parents, Robert (2013) and Theress (2021), and two sisters, Dorothy Kay Bruner (1974) and Diana Bruner Brown (2003). She is survived by sister Barbara Bruner Johnson (Gerald); children Karla Rice Barnhill (Joey) and Anderson Lynn Rice (Nancy Hess); and grandchildren Aaron Reed Barnhill, Owen Miles Barnhill, and Eli Bruckman Rice. Memorial donations may be sent to the American Diabetes Association.
