Roy Murray Obituary

Roy Edward Murray

June 5, 1939 - August 6, 2024

Roy Edward Murray, of Richmond, VA, formerly of Sacramento, CA, passed away on August 6, 2024. A wonderful husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Mary D. Murray; three sons, Kenneth Murray (Kelley), Steven Murray (Brent) and Roy Murray (Dorell); daughter, Ann Bishop (Raven); three grandsons, Thomas, William and Matthew; sister, Eleanor Roscoe and family, of Sacramento, CA; and the Draneys, of NC and VA.

Roy was an airplane pilot, charter and instructor. He was the recipient of the Wright Brothers Award for 50 years of safe flying by the FAA. Roy was a Boy Scout for many years, who valued the boys and friends above many achievements and recognitions. His awards included the Order of the Arrow and the Silver Beaver. He loved the time he spent volunteering for scouts at Camp T. Brady Saunders, the people of Troop 776 and volunteering with the Order of the Arrow.

Roy loved and was much loved by his family. He has gone home. The family would like to thank the many friends, doctors and nurses that cared for him.

A memorial will be scheduled. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
