Sadako Pico Obituary

SADAKO NAKAJIMA PICO Sadako Nakajima Pico passed away peacefully on the evening of Sunday February 5, 2023. She was 97 years old. Born in Saitama, Japan on October 15, 1925, she was the second child of Buhei and Shima Nakajima. In 1948, she left Japan to move to Maui with her husband Joseph Perreira Pico leaving behind her parents, brothers Yoshii, Mataichi, and Takao, and sister Tatsuko. In 1951, Sadako and Joseph moved to Oahu with their young family, where she work as a waitress at several restaurants, a career she enjoyed for close to 50 years. She loved gardening, growing hundreds of orchids at her home in Keolu Hills. When the family moved to Kaneohe in 1970, her many orchids did not survive, so she turned to growing anthuriums, which thrived in the humidity of Kahaluu. She loved animals, especially cats, and had many pets over the years. Sadako was a devoted wife to Joseph until his death in 2008; mother to Tony (Maggie), Thomas (Linda), and John; grandmother to Nicole, Erin, Tessa and a great-grand- mother to their children. A celebration of life will take place later this year. Arrangements Provided By: Oahu Mortuary
