Saki Uyechi Obituary

SAKI UYECHI Born on January 20, 1930 in Hanalei, Saki passed away March 8, 2025 surrounded by her family's love. Married on June 23, 1956, she was a full-time mother raising four children, Mae-Lynn, Byron, Gwen, and Gail. In the mid-seventies, she worked as a part-time waitress at Hogate's Seafood Restaurant in Washington DC earning enough to send her family to Hawaii for a wonderful summer vacation. She was an incredible mother who loved gardening, crabbing, traveling and cherished spending time with her six grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Nannie". Our mom will always be remembered for her kindness, selflessness, resilience, and love for family and friends. Her only want in life was to be proud of her children and grandchildren. During her final years, she would bless us with her smile and serenade us with her version of Manuela Boy and The Japanese Telephone Song. She joins our dad, Albert, who passed away at age 85 on June 23, 2019. A former Air Force Major and C-124 navigator who served two tours in Da Nang, Vietnam and a decade in the Department of Education. During retirement, they traveled to China, Korea, Japan, England, Scotland, Costa Rica, Spain and other countries seeking the best food, bakeries, restaurants and meeting new friends. Private interment services will be held at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific on August 21. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
