Sally Tanji Obituary

SALLY SADAKO TANJI 95, passed away on April 25, 2025 at home. Sally grew up in Mokuleia and attended Waialua public schools until the 10th grade. She transferred and graduated from Mid-Pacific Institute. She attended Illinois College earning a BS in Biology and BS in Education from UC, Boulder. She taught at Kahuku and Waialua Elementary schools until moving to Wahiawa in 1953. She taught at Wahiawa Elementary until 1956 and went back to school earning a Master of Library Science at Carnegie Institute of Technology. She returned to Hawaii and was the first librarian at Alva Scott Elementary and later the first librarian at Hale Kula (Daniel K. Inouye) Elementary. She returned to teaching at Wahiawa Elementary in 1962 and retired in 1995 with 42 years of public service in DOE. In retirement Sally and Roy (husband) enjoyed Tohoku Travel Services, touring the mainland, Canada, China and many trips to Japan. She was a avid lifelong reader and enjoyed playing the piano and knitting. Sally is survived by son Wesley (Sanae) and daughter Laura. Private services were held at Mililani Mortuary.

I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences to your family. My mother (Adeline Furukawa) & your mother were first cousins. I've met & talked with your mom throughout the years. Visited your dad while he was in Wahiawa Gen. Hospital. I wish I could of talked w/your mom about our family tree. I also live in Wahiawa. Again, my deepest sympathy...Iris (Kuniyoshi) Au
