SAMUEL CLUNEY Obituary

SAMUEL CHUNG CLUNEY Samuel Chung Cluney, 83, passed away on May 18, 2023 in Honolulu. Sam is survived by his wife, Linda, son, Shannon Cluney (Miriam), daughters, Kelly Gonsalves (Scotty), and Erin Basque (Chad). He was a proud Papa to six grandchildren: Stephanie Murar, Dillon Cluney, Preston Gonsalves, Jake Basque, Drew Basque, and Tate Basque. Sam is predeceased by his parents, William Cluney and Violet Wight, his step father, Archie Wight, and his brother, Allen Cluney. Sam was born in Honolulu and raised in Waimanalo. He attended St. Louis High School, and graduated from McKinley High School. He later received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from San Francisco State College. Sam also served in the U. S. Army (Army Security Agency) from 1962-1965, with deployments to Turkey and Florida. He was a life member of Honolulu Elks Lodge #616. Returning to Hawaii, Sam began a varied employment history. He started off in insurance, then moved on to finance as a stockbroker. His entrepreneurial spirit shined through as owner and operator of a Taco Time fast food franchise, then later when he and a friend resurrected the old Stadium Bowl-O-Drome on Isenberg Street. He also enjoyed a successful career as a real estate broker and Commissioner in Foreclosure for the courts. Sam had yet to retire. A brief memorial service will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023 at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl. Memorial will start promptly at 11:30am. Lunch to follow at 1:00pm at the St. Louis Alumni Clubhouse, 916 Coolidge Street, Honolulu, HI.
