SHARON MCPHEE Obituary

SHARON SULLIVAN MCPHEE Sharon Sullivan McPhee was born on January 24, 1929 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. She attended Edgewood College, Madison, Wisconsin, and received her B.S. degree in elementary education from Eau Claire (Wisconsin) State Teachers College in 1953. She taught elementary school in the Madison, Wisconsin schools and later in Illinois where she served as the President of the Park Forest Teachers Association. Sharon moved to Hawaii in 1968 when her husband Roderick McPhee became president of Punahou School and served for the next 26 years. Mrs. McPhee was very active in community organizations and civic life. She was the first woman president of the Hawai'i Heart Association in the 1970s and served on the National Board. She was a lifetime board member of the YWCA, KCAA Preschools, Queen's Hospital Auxiliary, Outdoor Circle and served as board member for numerous organizations including: Honolulu Commission on Culture and the Arts, Hawaii Theater, Diamond Head Theatre, Women's Association for the Honolulu Symphony, HPU Frear Eleemosonay Trust, Oceanic Institute, American Association of University Women, Bobby Benson Foundation, and League of Women Voters. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roderick McPhee. Sharon is survived by her son Dennis and his wife Lynda McPhee and extended family; her sister, Diane Fjelstad; and numerous nieces and nephews: Eric and Koll Fjelstad, Daniel, Gary, Scott, Kathy, Kelly, Maureen, and Timothy Sullivan, Patrica Page, Meg McPhee as well as Fran McPhee Redic. A memorial service will be held in her honor on Sunday, November 16th, at Punahou School's Thurston Memorial Chapel, where friends and family are invited to pay their respects and celebrate her life. Visitation at 12pm, service at 1pm.
