Shigeko Koyanagi Obituary

SHIGEKO KOYANAGI The Koyanagi Family is sad to announce the death of Shigeko Koyanagi of Honolulu, Hawaii, who passed away at the Hale Ho Aloha Nursing Home on June 6th, 2023. Shigeko was 104 years old and died peacefully in her sleep. Shigeko, fondly known as Rose, was born to Gunji and Yuki Handa on December 20, 1918, in Paia, Maui. She was the third of four children. Shigeko was predeceased by her husband, Tatsuo, parents Gunji and Yuki and her two brothers and sister. She is survived by her three children: Kenneth (Toshiko), Amy, and JoAnn and grandson Michael and two great-grandchildren. Shigeko was a devoted wife and mother and a kind woman. She worked as a garment cutter for a Hawaiian clothing manufacturer and was also an excellent seamstress. She made all of the clothes for her children while they were attending school as well as her own clothes. She became a very avid bowler after her husband died and continued to bowl until her 100th birthday. She was featured on KHON TV Kupuna Life with Kathy Muneno at the Fort Shafter Bowling Alley on her 100th birthday. On Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at 10 am, the Koyanagi family will host a funeral service at the Valley of the Temples Mortuary followed by a private ceremony at the Valley of the Temples Cemetary where her ashes will be inurned and united with her loving husband Tatsuo.
