SHIRLEY KALUHIWA Obituary

SHIRLEY LEILANI KALUHIWA Shirley Leilani Kaluhiwa, of Kahalu'u, Oahu, was born on January 31, 1941. On February 15, 2024, surrounded by family she was peacefully called home to heaven. Shirley dedicated her life to Christ and helping her community. Born of Hawaiian and Spanish ancestry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel K. Kaluhiwa; son Keli'i H. Kaluhiwa; daughter-in-law Monica Kaluhiwa; parents Amy Ho'okano-Cruz, Henry Cruz Sr; brother Henry Cruz Jr. and sister Virginia M. Rapozo. A 1959 graduate of James B. Castle High School she married her high school sweetheart, Samuel K. Kaluhiwa. She worked as a baker at Puohala Elementary and retired in 2004. Dedicating her life to help her community Shirley was part of Kahalu'u Lions Club, Ko'olaupoko Hawaiian Civic Club and founded the foodbank distribution at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Waikane. Shirley loved taking vacations to California hotel and spent many happy memories there. Shirley had a passion to help her community in anyway possible and would spend many decades feeding anyone that needed a meal. She was a very religious woman and would always pray for everyone and anyone needing a prayer. She is survived by 2 sons Milton Kaluhiwa and Douglas Kaluhiwa; 2 daughters Loriann Hogan and Lavina Kaluhiwa; 2 goddaughters Terry Lynn Sampaio and Anela Keopuhiwa; 19 mo'opuna Lorna Koyama, Robert Koyama (Kim), Alika Nomura, Kapena Kaluhiwa, Leilani Kaluhiwa-Shanks (Richard), Roselani Hurst-Naranjo (Royce), Makana Fronda, Kaluna Kaluhiwa (Cathy), Kaua Fronda, Keoni Hogan, Kaulana Kaluhiwa, Kamu Kaluhiwa, Kamali'i Kaluhiwa, Keli'i Kaluhiwa, and Kawika Kaluhiwa; 31 great mo'opuna and 7 great grand mo'opuna. Funeral Services will be held at Hawaiian Memorial Chapel on March 23, 2024 9:30am - 12:30pm. Burial to follow at 1:00pm. Aloha Attire. Flowers Welcome.
