Shirley Nied Obituary

SHIRLEY LEE NIED Shirley Lee Nied of Nuuanu, Oahu, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at the age of 90. Shirley always rejoiced over seeing rainbows. Shirley loved spending time with family and friends. She loved to read, enjoyed long walks at Ala Moana Park, looking for turtles at Magic Island, and spending time at the beach and with her grandchildren. Shirley worked as a medical ICU nurse at Queen's, and later worked at Cades Schutte Fleming & Wright as a medical paralegal. After Cades, Shirley worked for the Honolulu Heart Program, and later volunteered at Ma'ema'e Elementary, where she had gone to school as a child. Shirley was the daughter of General Russell Lee Waldron, Ret. USAF, and Sally Guthrie Moore. She was born in Newport News, Virginia, on December 30, 1935. In June of 1939, Shirley's father was stationed at Hickam Field on Oahu. Shirley was the eldest and half-sister to 5 other brothers and sisters: Matthew (Belinda) Waldron, Jon (Jan) Waldron, Bonnie (John) Copeland, Patty (Joe) Walsh, and James Waldron. Shirley married George Nied, Ret. USAF, who passed in 1985, Shirley and George had 4 children: George "David" (Shiela) Nied; Michael Nied who passed in 2021; Jennifer Graham; and Christopher (Suzette) Nied. Shirley was a grandmother to 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Shirley was the embodiment of: 1 Corinthians 13:7, which states that Love "always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." Shirley is survived by her second husband Frank J. Talamantes, who deeply loved her. Shirley graced all of us with her kind and loving countenance and always thought the best of everyone. Shirley had a sweet and giving personality that always made you feel special when you were in her presence. Shirley made everything a little brighter and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Arrangements Provided By: Oahu Mortuary
