Sofia Barroga Obituary

SOFIA MENOR BARROGA Sofia Menor Barroga passed away on April 2, 2023 after a brief illness. She was 96 years old. She was born on September 12, 1926 in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, Philippines and died in the same city as her birth. She was the youngest child of 9 born to Cirilo and Segunda Menor, and the last remaining sibling as they all predeceased her in death, but are now all reunited. She graduated from St. Williams College in the Philippines with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, and continued her education and graduated from Jackson College in Hawaii, which is now a part of Hawaii Pacific University. Hawaii was where she met and lived with her husband Cirilo who predeceased her in 1983. She never remarried after the death of her husband as they were married for 23 years. They married in September of 1960, and welcomed their only child Odettelynn, in October of 1961. Sofia worked for the civil service in varying capacities, but worked primarily at the U.S. Postal Service until her retirement in 1992. She returned to the Philippines in February 2012 as that is where she wanted to spend her remaining years. She is survived by her only child Odettelynn Murphy (George), her Grandchildren Michael Gill (Stephanie), Jonathan Gill (Violet), Alyssa Arroyo (Pedro), Brandon Murphy, and Brianna Scarfo (Christopher). She is also survived by her Great-Grandchildren Michael Jr., and Samantha Gill; Addison Lykins, Gage, and Makoa Gill; Olivia, Alessandro and Lorenzo Arroyo; Aolani and Brooke Scarfo. Celebration of Life services and Burial is scheduled for September 16, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Gathering will be held at the Chapel at Valley of the Temples at 9 a.m., followed by Catholic Services at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at 12 noon at Valley of the Temples. A luncheon will be held at the Valley of the Temples Chapel Lanai from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. for attendees. Arrangements Provided By: Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary
