STEPHEN HUGHES Obituary

STEPHEN DEE HUGHES Stephen Dee Hughes was born October 8, 1951 in Honolulu, Hawai'i, which is where he spent the majority of his life, and also where he passed away on October 22, 2024. He graduated from Punahou School, class of 1969. He will be remembered as a loving grandfather, father, husband and friend. He is survived by his wife, Leila Lili Mahdjub-Hughes, children Isabella (Harrison) Hughes and Sebastian (Stefanie) Hughes and brothers Roy (Annie), John (Karen), James and Mark (Janet); grandchildren Koa, Roya, William, Thomas and Nathan; and many nephews, nieces and great- nephews and great-nieces. A lover of books, the arts, Hawaiian history, culture, political activism, surfing, nature and gardening, Stephen's greatest joy later in life was being a 'Papa' to his grandchildren. A private celebration of life will take place on November 29th in Honolulu for close friends and family. Arrangements Provided By: Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary LLC

Stephen was the very best papa to his grandchildren. I loved spending time watching them together. He was a wise and wonderful individual and I am so grateful for the time I was able to spend with them, together. May God bless him for eternity.
Much Love, Grandma Jeri
