SUSAN QUIMBY Obituary

SUSAN S. Y. QUIMBY It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of Susan Sachiko Yonaoshi Quimby. Susan was born, raised, and educated in Honolulu. She attended Washington Intermediate School and graduated from Roosevelt high school and Honolulu Business College. She was a flight attendant with Eastern Airlines, a Honolulu business owner and a retiree of United Airlines. Sue passed after a long, hard battle with colon cancer and related health issues. She was optimistic and caring all through her life. Not long after graduating from Honolulu business college Susan was hired by Eastern Airlines and became a flight attendant based in New York City after training in South Florida. While living in NYC, Susan continued to work on her dance, acting, and voice skills and she joined the La Mama Experimental Theatrical Company in the East Village. La Mama ETC is still going strong in New York City and Sue visited there in November 2022 for a reunion with other alumni. While with the ETC she joined a traveling theater company called the Tokyo Kid Brothers and they toured all over Asia and Europe. Eventually they even performed on the Ed Sullivan show and Susan spoke directly to Mr. Sullivan during the performance. In 1978, Susan met her future husband James Quimby and they were married in 1980. They both shared a passion for dancing and travel which they continued to do up until that last trip in November of 2023. Susan was an empathetic, caring, talented, loving person with a million dollar smile and she will be greatly missed. On July 26, 2023, at 5PM at St. Clement's Episcopal Church in Makiki, the friends of Susan, her husband Jim, and her brother Roy Yonaoshi will be welcome to share catered bentos, see a short film on Sue, and have time to talk story and gather together. Prior to the get together, Susan's ashes will be scattered in the waters at Kuliouou beach where her mom's family once maintained a Hawaiian fish pond and farm. She will join her mom at that location.

Sue was the best big sister anyone can ask for. She was my mentor, friend, confidant, and understood my limitations even when I didn´t. She never ceased to amaze me at the inner strength she had while shouldering the burden of life in this world. Her positive outlook was always an inspiration to me even through all of her battles.
I will always cherish our memories we had and hope in our next life she will be a part of my life again.

I attended RHS our junior and senior years. Susan had a glow and such charm. I was awed by her talent. It sounds like she had a lovely life, greatly blessing all those she touched. My sincere condolences.
